Started tackling the issues with my truck.I pulled the VC connectors and tested the glow plugs and injectors for Ohms.I checked the glow plugs with a multimeter and a 12V test light they tested fine @1.0 ohms.
I get absolutely no readings for the injectors with a meter or a test light.what and how am I doing wrong to get the 3.2 ohm reading?I am working with the understanding that each connector has 5 terminals, center being ground, the 2 outside being GP and the 2 remainder being injectors.lol my wife wants me to get rid of this truck it's being undependable and she says she is scared to drive it.
Two outside are glow plugs, use battery or chassis ground to measure resistance.
Center pin is injector common, use it as ground when measuring injector resistance.
All right I tried using the center common to test the injectors and got no reading.
I got glow plug reading by leaving one bank connected and then reading across to the other disconnected harness.then I did just the opposite for the other bank that was originally connected.this is how I am trying to pick up resistance for the injectors.hope I explained the way I am doing it so ya'll understand so you can correct me if my method is wrong.thank you
I had a little trouble when doing this just because the pins are so small. Like Jim said, use the center, but you may have to fish around a bit to get a good connection. I found that I had to hold it for a second with a good connection to get a reading. Make sure you have really pointy probes for your volt meter. It helped me. Let us know!
Okay I was trying to be lazy I guess. I was trying to take a reading through the harness itself from side to side.now I see I got take a reading from the VC side.not from the harness. Is a 3.6 good resistance reading for the injectors?
I THINK that is pretty good. I know they are supposed to be 2.9-3.2....I am not sure if more than that is good or bad? Someone will chime in pretty soon.
Every injector reads between 3.6 and 3.7 ohms.I used a test light on the GP's and they passed. The PO said he had injector work done(don't really believe him)could bigger HP. injectors have more solenoid resistance? Also I used a harbor freight cheap meter could be a few points off
I'd guess your meter is a little off. IIRC you said your gpr is new, but check it with your meter. With the key on, there should be no more than .3v difference between the big posts.
