Hello. After repeatedly going to AutoZone for them to read the codes from my truck without any luck, I bought my own Actron CP9135. Now I'm having the same problems in that it won't link to my truck. I checked it on my other vehicle and it worked fine. I checked the fuse and put a new one in just in case, but still no luck. Is there anybody out there that could help me with this or has had the same problem? Thanks.
FWIW the manager at AutoZone said that mine isn't the first PSD to have this problem and that sometimes they don't have the OBD-II port wired right. I just can't take it to my dealership because they wanted to charge $200 before doing any warranty work...and that's plain stupid!!

First and foremost......what year and model is your truck??? if it's legitimate warranty issue and less than 36/36 then you should complain to ford corporate about them charging you $200 or you should just find another dealer. If it's motor work and less than 5yr/100K miles then the most they should charge is 100 deductible. Pull the battery cables for 30 minutes, turn the headlight switch on and see if your light comes back. Also, what kind of issues are you having with your truck?
The truck is an '05 PSD with about 25k miles on it, so it's still under warranty. But when I took it over to the dealership closest to my house here in Las Vegas (even though they are not the dealership I bought the truck from) and they said that because the check engine light wasn't on that they'd have to charge a $198 diagnostic fee even though I told them the simple problem was that I couldn't get the OBD-II port to read. I think bowtiehater was right in that I'll have to spend the big bucks on a different reader, one that reads CAN codes, and I should be fine. Thanks for the help.
I don't think you need to find the big bucks to spend on a different reader... I think you need to find a different dealer first and formost. Especially since about 75% of 6.0 driveablility problems will set a code, but not illuminate the CEL.
Why is that one they have a code it won't set off the Check Engine? I had thought the whole purpose to having that light come on, was for it to show that there is something on the computer and you need to find out what it is? If the computer is throwing codes and it doesn't show the light, then you could be, unknowningly, causing more damage to your truck.
certain codes throw lights and some dont, mainly if it is electrical circuit the light will come on instantly. but say you are towing a loaded trailor and you overboost for one second. the computer will throw a code but not turn the light on because the computer fixed it self. when it cant fix itself, it will be more serious, and the computer will turn the light on.
