Plan to spend tomorrow 12/24 putting a new patch panel on the front of the other rear fender (again taking an inch out of the height to pull the fender down).
That will allow me to mock the fenders into place on boxing day and then cut them to fit the profile of the bed sides using the stand I built to hold the fenders.
Will tack some of the patches into the recessed feature lines near the bottom of the sides.
Need to figure out how I'll mate the running boards to the bottom of the bed in front of the fenders. The gap will be about 1 or 2 inches. Thinking of using something flexible. Not horny about welding the bed to the running boards...Thinking of rubber like is used between the cab and the running boards......
As mentioned in another post, have decided on a plan for the taillights. Some of you may not care for it, but Bobby will... After I fill the stock Silverado taillights, am going to french in 88-93 Caddy units. Much as I love flush mount taillights in the roll pan, I want to run a trick bumper so that kills roll pan taillights..... so I'm frenching the Caddy units into the back edge of the bed sides on either side of the tailgate. Roll pan will only hold the license plate.....
Won't have the (frenching) buckets till after the break is over but might get the fillers tacked in.....
Have also decided that I'll smooth the tailgate (after it's narrowed) and move the latch mechanism to the inside of the tailgate.
QUESTION - Can anyone with a 53-56 give me the measurement from the top of the front wall of their stock bed to the bottom edge of the rubber seal on their back window? Please! Anyone?
that whole thing is 'way cool, being a hammer-head I really appreciate the wood bucks for the tail lights, can't wait to see the end product. Merry Christmas to all!
Mine is 11 3/4 from top of bed front to bottom of rubber window seal. Have you thought of extending the running board panel (with steel) reather then using rubber (which will make it look like a mistake IMO). I think you have a in with a young fellow who can weld.
Will take it under advisement gentlemen. (Honest!)
The bottom edge of the bed wall curves way under. Granted, once it's in paint (a medium colour in that area) the joiner would probably be fairly noticeable (especially if it's a contrasting black - i.e. as in rubber).
The Caddy taillight units should arrive this coming week. Anxious to see what the chrome bezel is made of. Would prefer to strip the chrome off it and paint it the same colour as the body.....Mongo no like shiney.......but if it's that weird pot metal crap, may have no choice but to stay with chrome....
Finished repairing the other rear fender this morning, so we should be marking and slicing them Wed/Thurs...... The bride says no working on Euphemia on Xmas day and there's a Biker Build Off marathon on boxing day!

Thanks,
My measurement from top of bed wall to bottom of rear window rubber is 11" 56 small window
I could have measured Gracie but it wouldn't have done you much good!
I misunderstood where you were talking about. Rubber there would match under the cab. With the chassis flex you wouldn't want a solid piece there.
