I have a 97 ford ranger. When I take it on a road trip everythings cool.. until I stop to fill up. When I get back on the interstate and reach 75ish the chk eng light comes on for the durration of the trip. The light stays on for 10 or so miles off the interstate. It continues to spit out the same code.. DTC P1151 HO2S Bank 2 Sen1 Insuff. switching Lean Mean. where exactly is the 02 Sensor 1, and will replacing that fix it?
Bank 2, sensor 1 is the FRONT (upstream - between the engine and the catalytic converter) sensor on the side that does not have #1 cylinder (in your case, the drivers side). Basically the code is set because the sensor is "biased lean", meaning it's spending more time reading lean than rich. The sensors constantly have a yo-yo type of effect.. they read lean, so computer adds more fuel... then reads rich and computer adds less fuel.. and so on and so on...
So you've got one of two problems.. either the sensor itself isn't reading properly (most likely), or for some reason BANK 2 is running lean, however the lack of a P0441? code (Bank 2 lean) leads me to think that it's just a sensor problem.
I like MazdaRangerGuy's take on this so far, but it might also be helpful to know which engine you have, the mileage on it & if you've had any repairs done just prior to this happening????
