The article shows it to be screwed into a boss on the "upper bellhousing bulkhead". I would guess that it is an intregal casting to all 302 blocks, regardless of application. But whether or not it would have threads cut is a question. The 91 HO they used as a donor had it.

The knock sensor will not affect how this engine runs, I guess the computer will adapt?

Firing order will stay the same as the truck diagram states 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

What other diferences may I come across swapping the 1988 mustang HO

I put an 82 engine in my 91.I posted the question on this board(knock senor) and got the above advice.
I just drilled and taped a hole the for the knock sensor as suggested. The metal was easy to drill and tap.I did put a couple of washers under it.The trucks running great.

redlightning,
Your thread stated changing the front cover, was this the timing chain cover because of a mechanical fuel pump?

I took it down to a long block and installed a new timing chain and gasket kit.I swapped the front cover and everything else so I wouldn,t have any problems with the power steering,a/c,etc.

put both vehicles on the CSK website and check all the parts, cam, oil pan, timing set, water pump, harmonic balancer.

Only thing thats different on my 1991 crown vic 302 to my 92 F-150 is the water pump.

On your 88 triple, u may not have the roller cam, im not sure.

So what I am gathering is the swap will work, I may have to drill and tap my own KS boss. IF I decide not to drill and tap, or the tap breaks (icky) i will be taping off the sensor and taping it to the wiring harness, out of the way.

Scndsin, is there anything else you see that im missing? I cant find that magazine anywhere, not even the Library. The book store by me has the one that says display until febuary allready.

I will have the roller cam as long as the block is from a stang. Otherwise will this pose a problem with the ECU?

I know I am starting to sound like a broken record, but just trying to learn more about doing this swap smoothly?

Cheers!

no, because the roller cam should have the same lobe separation (114 degrees) as the original one, since both of them were computer-controlled, so there shouldnt be a problem there
