Engine swap
What engine will work in my 94 f150 without having to worry about cams, computer swapping etc..
I have a line on a 88 302 HO out of a mustang not sure that will work for my application?
Any help appreciated!

ok, we need a bit more information here first to help you.
First of all, what engine do you already have in that pickup? If it is already a 302, then yes, that swap would work fine, you would just re-use your harness and plug it in to the new engine. If you have a different engine, then there might be a little work involved, but the specs of your truck would really help.

OK, The truck origanally came with a 302. I definetely need to prchase a new engine the one that came in the truck when purchased was torn down and left outside for quit some time very very rough internals.
Again 1994 F-150 came stock with 302 what is my safest bet for a engine swap without having sensor or ecm discrepencies?

Replace a truck 302 with a truck 302 if you don't want to do any work.
If you learn more, you will find that the work needed to go to a 351 is small and very worth it. Read the small block engine forum. This topic has had nearly every viem discussed. You should find what you are looking for there.

There is an excellent article in the fall issue of Ford Performance Trucks that addresses this very swap (87 to 93 Mustang HO into 87 to 96 302 truck) & all its details. The mag is a Primedia publication & produced by the same writers of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords. It may also be available online. There is also a great shot of the truck lower sitting side by side with the HO lower which is sure to set off another extensive runner debate. Engine specs over the years, firing order, knock sensor, accesories and all issues related to this swap are discussed. If you can find it, I belive its just what you're looking for.

Thanks scndsin I am going to look that up and read up on it. See what the differences are. I had a engine lined up but looked for the knock sensor hole in the block, there was no tapping, so I held off.

Can anyone find a link to this article? I can get a deal on a 1992 F-150 302 with a bad motor right now, and I have a 1991 Crown Vic 302 sitting at the cabin, so I would also like to know if i can swap the motors. I know the oil pan would have to be changed, but im hoping thats it.

Went back & dragged the mag out of the stack on top of the porcelain water storage unit in the "library". (Wife just loves that stack) The "Display Untill Date" on the cover is Nov. 7th, so it may not be on the shelf of you favorite reading material provider. Then tried to do a quick search on line & could only come up with Ford Truck Performance issues. Seems that primedia had to change the name to Ford Performance Trucks with the Fall issue due to confusion with another buisness & none of the info/material has made it on line yet. It would be great though if some of the FTE high muckity mucks could get permission to do an online reprint. Lots of good info in it that could answer a lot of frequently asked questions in this particular forum.

the 5.0L HO swap is literally plug and play, just make sure your plug wires are going to the right cylinders since the firing order is different. The different firing order on injectors wont matter, the truck is bank fire. It fires one side then the other. Ford sells an efi kit that uses the bank fire, and says it will work on both firing orders. I have debated this point with people who have done the swap, and did nothing but plug the injector harness in. I thought it wouldnt work, but it does. Also a stock or mildly over stock 351w will work on the 302 computer.

I find this hard to believe, due to the fact that the 1988 HO I looked at did not have a place for the knock sensor in the back of the block.
And I looked for a while for that article as well on line,no luck. Very intrerested in reading up on the swap.

Dont worry about the knock sensor. it really is plug and play, you just leave it unplugged. the only reason for the knock sensor was that a 302 is small enough in these trucks, that ford had to really push them, and in some cases, there was a lot of detonation. the knock sensor was to detect that detonation so the computer could do it's thing with the timing. The reason that yours doesn't have that is because it came out of a car.
When i swapped my 351W over, it doesn't have that place for the knock sensor either, so I just plugged it off and left it and have had no problem.
