I was testing out my 4wd last week and heard a nice loud pop and then 4wd was gone. I checked my lcks and one is broken. I ordered some new ones but it got me thinking. I looked into the system a little better. I have noticed the my 4wd engages but there is alot of play in the axis of the drive shart to the frone end. the front axles don't have any play in them but the transfer case does. I can ture the driveshaft about 1 inch side to side before the gears or chain locks it up. Also I have noticed that it will not switch to low range 4wd anymore.
thanks for any help you cane give me.
Jeff
First off ,don't know where and when you were testing, but hope it wasn't on dry pavement.
if you replaced the front hub locks and things are tight in the front drive line back to the transfercase your okay up front.
In a 03 which you have ,slop in the transfercase chain is normal.it may be stretched alittle though now.
Shifting in to 4lo requires a proper procedure .
chk your manual.
I've written the steps 100's of times.
chk your fuses
4x shift motor
wiring
relays
