I am putting a late model 5.0 in a '73 pickup. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on accessory brackets or belt setup. I want to run, ps pump, altenator, water pump, and a/c compressor. Does anyone have any experience with the correct setup for this combo? I have some of the original brackets, not sure if all. that came out of the '92 truck, but I am not running the smog pump. I have the bracket that mounts the ps pump. I don't want to spend a fortune on brackets and pulleys.
Take a walk in a scapyard and try and find something that has a 4 hole crank pully with all the acessories(sp) you need and buy it all, shouldn't cost too much. Look for a setup with a small crank pully, can't remember what I got mine from but it had a small crank pully on it, little smaller than the balancer.
how mine was configured was with the ac pump top right ps pump bottom right alternator on the left side ... the ac pump was added afterwards and was huge and a pain to work around ... i would recommend doing that diff prob dropping the alternator and putting it above it to allow easy access to the distributor and as for parts the junk yard would be the way to go it shouldnt cost too much and looking around may give you a better idea of how to do it
Did you get this motor without all the accessory drives and have to start from scratch? If it did come with it's original serpentine drives, that's what I'd run. You can buy a different belt from the original and route it differently to run the accessories you want.
Hey...I actually do have both 5.0 brackets. I think I will use these for now with shorter belt to bypass a/c and smog. One bracket holds the smog and alt., the other the p/s pump and ac comp.
Thanks guys. This helps. Looks like I may need that black steel bracket that is supporting the a/c compressor as well. What type of a/c compressor does Ford use? I plan on using a Sandin. Maybe it will work with this bracket.
The one in the pic is a Ford FS6. The truck had a Sandin on it when I got it, but it won't easily fit the 5.0 brackets. The black top bracket wouldn't have fit it at all though. I could adapt the compressor to fit but it had a V-belt clutch and since the 5.0 came with the FS6 compressor with the serpentine clutch, it just made more sense to use it.
