Does anybody make a V8 conversion kit for the 1950 Ford F2? Either Chevy or Ford would work, though I'd rather bleed blue with this truck. I bought a Jaguar a while back, and there is a definate aftermarket for conversions... does anything like that exist for this? Thanks.
Many places sell engine and trans crossmembers that will fit your truck.Dennis Carpenter,Mid Fifties, and No Limit Eng. are just a few. Just decide on the engine trans combo and order the crossmembers.
Speedwaymotors.com has adapter crossmembers for your truck for just about any V8. I have a 49 and am putting in a 351 Clevland. Thats where my crossmember is comming from for about $65.
I'm currently in the process of dropping a Ford 400M into my 52 F-3. For my mounts I actually took advantage of my 1979 F-150 parts truck (or what left of it) and pirated the engine cross member and engine towers. With a little trimming and some boxing I made it fit nicely in my front end for very little money and I have the ability to use any engine ford used in 1979 by simply getting the right engine towers and stock mounts. I know this is a home grown setup, but it works for me and keeps everything in my truck original Ford steel. I hopefully will have pics of my setup if anyone is interested.
On my 52, I'm sticking with the stock suspension. I know it will be a rougher ride than something newer, but I'm trying to keep my truck as original as possible. I however will be making some structural changes to the frame in order to strengthen it enough to handle the more powerful driveline.
These modifications include boxing the frame rails with 3/16 plate, the new 79 engine cross member, and the replacement of all other stock CM's (with the exception of the front radiator one) with rectangular tubing. I have also drawn up plans for a new mount for 1979 brake powerbooster and master cylinder that will allow me to use the stock pedal in roughly the same position as stock. Also after reading this octobers issue of classic trucks magazine, I think I may triangulate the entire frame using 2x4 tubing. As of now, thats where I stand with the project chassis wise.
I have also started the rebuilding of my cab, but thats another project all in itself (luckily all is going well so far). Again I hope to have pictures up soon in my gallery of my progress.. if anyone has questions just let me know. Thanks
