Where do I find the motor numbers that tell the difference between a truck and an auto motor. What are the major differences between a 1950 1/2 ton truck and auto V-8 motor ? Thanks
If it's original to the truck, it will have 8RT on the heads. Cars were 8BA on the heads. Trucks used wide belt waterpumps, but you can mount them to the car engines.
Could an 8BA head be mounted on a truck engine and work in place of an 8RT head except for maybe a change of the compression ratio ? Thanks for the info. Les

The 8BA and 8RT blocks are the same as far as I know. From what I've been able to learn the differences between truck and car engines were only bolt on accessories. Waterpumps/mounting location, bellhousing, oil pans, heads, and maybe cams, etc.
