I'v got a 97 F250 that I just put a new lift pump in it. the only problem that I (atleast) thought I had run into is the PITA banjo bolt. got everything back together the motor coughed a couple times then ran good for about 10 seconds. then it quit. not all it does is crank. when I turn the key on the wts light doesnt come on, and the tach doesnt move at all when I crank it. so I put a new CSS in and the tach still doesnt move. It doesnt smoke or do anything to suggest it is tryint to start. oh and by the way I am getting fuel pressure.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I had to borrow friends truck to pull cattle trailer today which really sucks
This kinda happened to me when I changed mine.
Make sure the filter is primed.
Batteries are charged.
And plug in the block heater the guys here told me that one it seems to really help start it the first time.
I hate to say it but I'v done all of those things. I am 99% sure it is gonna be something electrical but am not sure. these electronically controlled diesel motors are new to me. I can hold my own on an oldschool diesel motor since i first started helping my dad rebuild them when I was 6 but not too confident on this new stuff yet.
Your gonna need more help than I know about then.
I'm new to diesels myself but Im getting an education here the past couple weeks trying to get mine to run right.
I'm not understanding why you have no lights and tach even after the CPS.
That wait to start light not coming on indicates something Ive seen here.
Try doing a search for that.
Mine started when I did that stuff but ran lousy Im figuring that its a bad injector and Injector driver module. Thats a possibillity also for yours.
Ive got the parts on the way hoping Ive figured correctly.
Did you try jumping the Glow Plug Relay?
Maybe fuses?
I Just Did My Pump Last Week And Had No Problems.she Fired Right Up And Idled Fine. Make Sure You Plugged In All Your Connections To The Fuel Filter Housing And Make Sure You Didnt Blow Fuse #22.the Truck Will Crank When This Goes Bad But It Will Not Fire.even When The Fuse Is Blown The Truck Still Will Have Fuel Press.i Think The Fuse They Use For The Fuel Heater(fuse #22) Also Controls Something Like Fuel Solenoid Maybe.hope You Get It Figured Out.
thanks guys for the advise. I will check on that as sune as I get home late tonight. is that a maxi fuse and is it on the panel under the dash? I hope its nothin too expensive that would be cuttin into my money for mods down the road
DAN-D-DIESEL97 is right about fuse 22. A lot of times the fuel heater comes apart inside the filter housing and shorts out. That fuse is also the pcm fuse, no computer = no tach, no wait light and no start. You can always unplug the fuel heater, it's fairly useless unless you're in New York, and then replace the fuse.
thanks for the help. I replaced the fuse tonight and the truck started right up. which came along with a big sigh of relief!

Unplug the fuel heater from the side of the fuel filter bowl or the fuse may pop again. You will need to repair/replace the fuel heater to stop the blown fuses.
