I have a 2000 Ex with the V10, and as of late it seems it has to crank longer before it starts. Sometimes it will not start on the first attempt, but if I turn the key back to off and try again, it fires right up.
I had heard this might be the crankshaft position sensor. They said that it is bad if the tach doesn't move while cranking. Well, mine doesn't move while cranking, it springs to life right as the engine fires up.
Could someone let me know if their v-10 tach moves while cranking?
Fred, just tried mine several times for you. My tach, like yours, does not move until it starts. Always starts first time after approximately 1-2 seconds of cranking.
My 2005 seems to take longer than it should to start. If I hit the key then let off quick it seems to start after you turn the key back. It'll whirl/crank but dosen't seem to catch till the starter disengages.
Thanks for the reply Navy, since yours seems to act like mine, I will not worry about it. Mine cranks for about 1-1/2 seconds as well. I have not ever had it not start, so guess I am getting worked up over nothing!
Mine seems about the same. Since its new to me it had me thinking. My 5.4 starts right up. I'll worry about it once it won't start. I'm spending way more than anticipated on it right now anyways. Wife not happy, six new tires four callipers four ball joints and two sets of pads. Hope I'm done for a bit.
Like Varsity said, sounds like a fuel pump going bad.
Easy check is to turn the ignition on (not cranking) for 3-5 seconds then turn it off, then back on for another 3-5 seconds, then off, then start the engine. If it fires right up, time for a new fuel pump.
