Alright guys so I put in a CD player in my 1991 F-150 and now the dash light don't turn on. My question is does the power for the dash lights go through the stock stereo? Because I may have snipped it, also need to know how to hook that back up, or should I just pull it out and mess around with the wires a little bit?
Ya wiring adapter would have been nice but too late now I guess. But ya I did twist the dimmer dial but nothing, I'll go ahead and check the fuse box but if thats not the case is there a way to bypass the set up to get those light back on??
No, dash panel lighting does NOT go through the OE stereo first. You may have shorted something and popped the fuse, or cut the wrong wire, but I opt for the first possibility. The wiring harness visits the instrument cluster before the stereo. Worst case, you accidently cut the ground to the cluster. This is usually bad news for the instruments, though, and if they're still working, I'd lean toward the blown fuse theory again.
I would be very wary of 'hotwiring' the dash lamps. This is begging to set the truck on fire. The fuses are there for a reason. If you cut the wrong wires, find a way to go back and repair it properly. Otherwise, you may get a very nasty smell from under the dash one day just before you have to bail out and call the local fire department.
