I parked my truck on the street a little too long and somebody clipped the left mirror. It is the stock XLT mirror. The motor to adjust the mirror still works but the galss is broken.
Has anyone ever replaced just the mirrored glass? If so how difficult was the job?
Or, how expensive and difficult is an upgrade to the larger mirrors most PSD's have?
Not to sure on the just the glass replacement, have not done it on a powered mirror before. To replace and go to the bigger mirrors is easy and you can get a set on ebay for about 150 for the set.
If its the large glass you are probably looking at about $40 installed. I'm not sure about the small rounded glass. If you they did damage to the arm/assembly then you might want to hit up flea-bay. Like I need to do after clipping a tree while working in the orchard (uggghhhhh, of course AFTER I just fixed a cracked mirror).
You can get the mirror part that broke at http://www.powerstrokeshop.com. The old one comes off, and the new one pops in (you have to make sure the little guide rods on the back are aligned with the holes in the mirror housing).
But, I think you should upgrade to the trailer-tow mirrors... they're much better.
I have a 99 lariat trim F350. My mirrors have power adjustment for the large mirror but the smaller mirror is locked in place and I can not adjust even manually. also the arms do not extend. does anyone know if I can buy the heated extendable mirrors perhaps from a newer truck and have an electrical harness that will handle the extra connection. I realize I would have to ad a heater switch somewhere but if the connection is at the mirror I assume that the wire is somewhere in the door. any thoughts
Yes you can swap the newer mirrors that extend, fold, power glass, heated glass, lights, etc onto your truck. You'll have to run new wires through the doors for the LED lights and for the heater. LOTS of folks have done this, though... it's not too tough a job.
