Hi guys I posted a simmilar post a couple of days ago but after a full weekend of research I narrowed my problem down to the torque converter or a control of some type related to the torque converter.
Seems my torque converter doesn't always want to come out of lockup resulting in lack of power in higher gears.
Seems that it always came out of lockup before at the tinyest touch of the gas pedal now it won't even come out of lockup unless I take my foot off the gas pedal and return it to its previous position.
Do you think it's a sensor or solenoid of somekind?
Any help would be appraciated at this point.
P.S. oil & filter have been flushed and changed a couple of days ago.
50,000 miles f250 w/4R100.
It could be a bad TPS. Not likely the solenoid and if it was the 4R100 has a solenoid block that integrates all of the solenoids in one assembly.
You didn't say what year your truck is. If its a '96+ then you can use a scanner to monitor data and see if the computer is commanding it to come out of lockup or not. You could have a problem in the pump or valve body that is leaking pressure and forcing the TC clutch on.
An O3. OK, then use a scanner to monitor data and see what the computer is telling the TC Clutch to do. You can also monitor the TPS and see what voltage its putting out and if it has a problem.
first step is to have a scan made of the computer and a road test with the scanner on it to make sure it's what you feel is happening. you should be able to see the call for lock up and unlock with the scanner .
if it's not working then first step is to check the valve body and rebuild if nessary. a 4r100 still has valves along with solinodes. and the valve bores do wear . if that fails then its pull the trans time.
i would find a very good trans shop near your home and have every thing checked out properly. could be the flush you just did dislodged some crud and it stuck some thing that should not have. you may even just have a bad wire or corroded connector.
my personal way of fuild changes is still the old way, drop the pan. that tells how much metal is inside and from what part." we can tell if it's a clutch pack, planitary gear set, thurst washer. all by the materials color" were a flush dosn't. i would also slowly turn the engine and look for a 11mm head drain plug as many h.d ford convertors still are drilled and taped with drain plug to drain them on a change.
check out this sponsers web site for what many of the codes have been found to be and caused by and what to replace for a repair www.level10power.net
One of my mechanic friends says he can bring a scan tool from work and plug it in my truck and take a drive, he says he should be able to tell when it comes out of lockup or when it should come out of lockup.
He's hoping to find some trouble codes.
I'll post you guys back here when I get some details.
