Nice posts. Mile Marker and Harbor Freight electrics are the same. (made in China) HF is cheaper. There is a sale on now - the 8,000 winch going for $299.00
Harbor freight has a 10,000 lb winch also, at a great price(when they go on sale almost every week), but they don't sell the 12,000 lb winch, just Mile Marker.
I have the Harbor freight 10,000 winch with a hidden setup that I made, it is behind the stock bumper but I think the same basic idea would work, check out my gallery if you are interested. nice bumper by the way.
78, thats what I was talking about. I want to make it as hard as possible to steal. back there youll bearly even see it, and I figure I can tack the nuts to it on, then theyd have to take the whole bumper.
please leave those HF winches alone! i broke 3 in less than 2 months and they quit honoring the warranty. they sent me a new one after i sent them the busted one and it didnt over use it or anything
im in the process of building a bumper close to that it sticks out a foot and angles back towards the truck and up on the ends gonna put a hidden winch in it also
Check my gallery "1974 Ford F250 4x4" those tow tounges worked great so many time..untill i ripped it off the bumper LOL. Do yourself a huge favor and lap weld those suckers on there 2 or 3 times.

How do you remove the winch to service it? or do you not wheel in mud and water?
realisticly, how often do you "service" it? unless it is sitting under water for a prolonged period we've never bothered with anything but keeping them clean and oiled, and that wouldnt be hard to do where I'm going to put it.
We have trails with water crossings that consist of glacial runoff.
That silt will destroy moving parts fast.
I would expect to pull my winch at least once a year.
