it's a keypad entry that goes on your door. BUT, as opposed to drilling, wiring, etc it looks and soudns like you just glue it on and it works like your key fob...wirelessly.
for being a noob at stuff like this, i kinda like the idea. thoughts on these products/installing them?
That's exactly what I was thinking of doing...right above the bed rail and just below the back window. Since I'm a little skeptical of the "super-tape" that holds them on, I figured that it would be better protected behind the cab.
Yup bought these on ebay, 2 of them, mounted them on my ranger both doors.
problem is one somehow got water inside and died. there is no way to replace battery inside without breaking the number membrane under the bezel.3 volt
watch battery. they do work good though. hope this helps
They work fine, but aren't the sturdiest things ever made. We used to sell a lot of them at the Ford dealer I used to work at.
They program just like a FOB.. most are turn key on/off 8 times. On the 8th "on" cycle the doors will lock then unlock themselves.
At this point it will ERASE all your fobs... just make sure you have all of your fobs handy.. press any button on one.. doors will lock/unlock.. then do the next... then etc.. when you have done all the fobs, then type in the combination on your door pad and all is programmed.
Also make sure you're not within range of someone else using their fob on a different vehicle.. if they happen to use their fob while you're programming yours... their fob will work on your vehicle as well! ( I had a few issues with this at the dealership haha)
And what does one do if they have one on thier Ranger, but do not know the code?
Thanks, I just bought a 2003 Ranger. I really like the truck, but I would like to get this keypad working.

Without knowing the original code to the keypad, I think you may be up the proverbial creek. The only "hard copy" of the keypad code that I know of comes with the keypad kit and is credit card-like in shape. If you can't find that, then I think you're outta luck.
