Installing a Keyless Entry Keypad for 97 Expedition
I have a 1997 Expedition EB, that didn't come with the Keyless Entry Keypad, my question is how hard is it to install a keypad in a car that wasn't factory equipped with that option?
I read somewhere on the internet that the ECU already has a Keyless entry code programed into the ECU, and all you have to do is install and hook up the keypad to the ECU. Has anyone out there installed a keypad on their expedition, and if so how much work was it?

I was also checking into that option. I called the local dealer, and he couldn't find a P/N for the keypads, and said that they didn't start putting the keypads on until 1999. I am not sure I belive him, but I think they are the same keypad. You could check the junkyard for the keypads and wiring. Probably cheaper then new.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Sep-02 AT 02:37 PM (EST)]The keyless entry pad was not available on an Expedition until the 1999 model year, in which it became standard equipment on XLT's and EB's.
A website, www.xpedition.net has directions for installing the pad in pre '99 Expeditions. Look under the link marked "Expy F.A.Q.".
