Ryan, thanks for the offer, but I do enjoy building them as well, just cant afford to right now. I am not hurting for a computer right now, I have my laptop but when I go to work it leaves my wife without a computer. With that "pop" that it made before it started smoking I am also concerned about it taking out the processor and motherboard and whatnot.
Friends of ours had a similar problem. We could see flames before I got it unplugged. We named it 'Sparky' & made a quick trip to the local store - picking up a new Antec PSU. That computer is still working now 2 years later. I hope yours will too.
a pop sound is usually the power supply, i would suggest ebay for a cheap one, they can be had for under 10 bucks, then if the pc still doesnt boot you got off cheap. for long term use i would not suggest running a cheap power supply but for testing it is nice having one around to swap out real quick. and also new mother boards require new power supplys, there are extra hook ups required on my KV7 board that my old Asus dragon board didnt have. I went to STAPLES and got a good one for 68 bucks on sale.
Thank's for the kind words.
I always belived in what comes around goes around.
Do good things good things will happen to you.
Or maybe I been watching too much of My name is Earl.
