An HP Computer question/issue
Here's the issue I'm having with it, as they also had the same issue.
When I plug in the power cord, both the CPU and the power supply fans turn on.
The hard drive does make a few sounds. But nothing on the monitor,
as though it's turned off.
But when I hit the power switch on the front of the computer,
everything shuts down. Nothing. Dead. Nada. Kaput.
I can hit that power switch numerous times; nothing happens.
Now when I unplug the power cord, the power supply's LED on the back dims out.
Then when I plug the power cord in again, the same thing happens again.
Fans come on. I hit the power switch. It shuts down. Nothing. Dead. Nada. Kaput.
Is the mother board shot, or could it be something else?
I hate to shoot it, because it specs out much better than my 9 year old Dell.
Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks

When it starts to boot are there any beeps that aren't normal?
I would start by removing, cleaning and re-seating everything in the box. Video, sound, network cards, memory, processor. You can also check the voltage's on wires from the power supply. Clean out dust bunnies in the case and power supply. I use compressed air, make sure you don't let the air spin any fans. Put back together making sure everything is seated, connectors are pushed all the way in.
If nothing shows on the monitor after cleaning, you could try using your monitor to rule out a bad monitor. If still nothing, I would suspect a bad video card.
