What did I do wrong? Code P1443

Okay, so my CEL came on with the typical P1443 code on my '95 2.3 5speed 4cyl with 135k on it. I replaced the PCV valve and the Cannister valve assembly (the whole assemby: Ford Part # F57Z-9C987-AB). MY CEL is still on! I took it for about a 10 mile drive and it won't shut off! The only thing I can think of what that I didn't disconnect the negative battery cable when replacing the parts. Could that have something to do with it? HELP!!!

The code won't go off on its own, you have to clear the computer. It is always a good idea to remove the negative cable when working on a part with a sensor hookup - it erases bad data from the computer. But as to the code, you have to clear it with the scanner.

So does this mean that even if I disconnect the battery cable and leave it off for 30 minuts, after about 20 miles or so of driving, the CEL will come back on?
