I have a weird issue on my 97' Ranger vith 4.0 V6.
The engine is in the very low end of the tempeture gauge when running, the tempeture control puts out the same amount of heat on the hot side as does on the cold side.

Same here on '99 Ranger with 4.0 V6..... Any one know what's going on please let us know, it's getting cold here.....
Further investigation, I find that the heat stays on through all the different settings, from AC to defrost, with no tempeture adjustment. Max AC works the AC fine, all the rest just produce heat, uncontrolled.

That sounds like a blend door / actuator issue. Could be seperate from your low temperature gauge issue. Search this forum for "blend door" and you'll get a million threads back. Or click here for a quick description of the common problem, the diagnosis, and the "cheap" fix for a broken blend door.
As to the low temp gauge, I think the quick things to check are fluid level and the thermostat. If your thermostat is broken open or if a previous owner removed it (or put in a lower temperature one), it won't maintain the engine at the proper temperature.
Well guys, I installed a Motorcraft thermostat today and I now have good heat and the temp. gauge is mid way up, just like it should be..... That was one costly thermostat, but it sure was worth it.....!!!
Glad to hear that you fixed your problem. Motorcraft parts can be pricey, but they can have their benefits as well. You can check out our forum sponsor (Discount Ford Parts) in the future, perhaps you can save a few bucks.
Out of curiosity, was your thermostat busted open, or a too generic replacement running at a lower temp?

It was a Motorcraft thermostat that was in it, the truck has 121,500mi. & I'm betting it's been in there the whole time.... And yes, it was stuck open.... I used the Motorcraft part because of all the threads I'd read about having to go back & install another one because the new one was faulty.......
Yes I know that, but I still wanted to be sure & get a quality thermostat and there's all the difference in the world in the way the Motorcraft part is made......!
