You can on a lima 2.3, but the new duratec is a different engine all together, it's a dohc. Focus sport and F2 have turbo kits for the 2.3 focus that could be adapted over with a little fabing, also Alan D is working on a turbo kit. Even on the lima 2.3, the turbo versions had forged pistons and rods, the standard version didn't, so you would have to run low boast, or swap in some stronger internals, better to just use the whole turbo motor.
N20 CHEAP will add as much power as you dare to blow up your little 4cly. but may not be leagal in your area but hey street racing isnt anyway...so go to the track!!! o and if your keepin up with them you probably would need only a 25 shot good luck

I'm keeping my truck weined off that stuff.
as for the turbo, well, lets not give me too much credit yet, i still only have two working models. luckly they are the only two i made so far. I'ld hate to build a crappy one, and cause someones engine to... die. But thanks for the advertising(let me know when to slip you that jackson bill. )
Oh yea, btw RP, i'm assuming my check never made it to you, it never got cashed and i never got yhe speakers. good to see you on the boards again.
Damn, guys.....I go away for a day and a half, and everybody shares their knowledge. This is why I love FTE.
I checked out Cosworth, and took a good long look at their high powered engine assemblies.....that's a hell of alot of money.....upwards of 9k....Hell, for 9k, I could just drop a rebuilt junkyard dawg 302 with 400hp in there and be done with it! :-) Plus, upwards of 4k for the turbo.....that 460 idea is starting to sound really good! :-)
I would love to be able to stuff a turbo on the stock motor, maybe throw some cams in there, but I'm not sure the bottom end could handle it.
I've thought about using nitrous, but I'd wind up doing something stupid, whether it being hooking the system up, or just puting too much in the motor and grenading it....which would not be a good thing....
I've read in some magazines that they have cams for the focus 2.3l that'll let it rev freely to like, 7800 RPM....that's a little much for me...I'd stick to around 6500-6800 RPM....I figured that, with the tuner (to rid the truck of the limiters...damn things...) and an exhaust system would make this little hellion one bad mother......well, you get the idea....
Speaking of the tuner....will the bama tuner you guys are telling me about really work for the 4banger? No other company seems to offer a tuner for the 2.3l, so that's why I ask.
Oh, and as far as racing at the track goes.....sure, why not? (I'm a bad, bad man) ;-)
Alot of guy's on thier focus are running the cosworth intake manny and cams with the focus sport turbo kit, You can run up to 11 psi with an intercooler on stock internals with proper tunning. You can get the cosworth D-power kit, which is pistons, rods, head and so on for 3 grand, thats the main one with the good stuff, the other power kits wouldn't work on the ranger since thier made for the focus. Also focus sport, F2 and marcy motorsports has alot of hipo parts for the duratec, thier just not world renouned like cosworth. Check the focus forums, they will you alot of good idea's and it won't cost 9 grand for a cossy motor. Marcey even has a big bore short block. Everydody has done the 302 thing to death, dare to be different. Also a built 2.3 can make alot of hp and still get decent mpg. The average hp bump with the turbo is 250 hp and those guy's are still capable of getting 30 + mpg, if thier not romping it. 250 hp in a light car is fast, mine allmost stock, and it's very quick, some guy's take them up to 400 hp and thier still streetable, so they say anyways.
