95 ford explorer 4 wheel drive problems

I have a 95 ford explorer when you let off the gas it makes a grinding noise, if you give it gas again it will stop. When you let off the gas it will grind again. Sometimes when I put it in reverse, it will make an even worse grinding noise where I then have to put it in 4 wheel drive take it out of 4 wheel drive and then put it in reverse, it will work sometimes sometimes I got to go through the whole process again until it works. I took it to a mechanic and he told me he had no idea what the problem was. I went to another mechanic and he said to try the dealer. but the first mechanic I went to used to work for the ford dealership. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I thought maybe it needed the actuator replaced but I was told that I can't even get that part.

I'm not great at trans, but after 6hrs I'll throw in some ideas. Check your trans-mounts and exhaust hangers, not doubting you, but I heard a catalytic converter that sounded like a rock in the bellhousing a few weeks ago. You may need to visit a trans shop.

Transfer case

I had the same problem. Put your system in 4 wheel low. If it doesn't grind and runs okay then its your transfer case. Fix it now or you may end up stranded or driving 30 miles in four wheel low.
