Hi, I have been trying to figure out what is going on with my van. I have replaced all the plugs, wires, distributer cap, and the coil. I had to replace a new wire due to a faulty wire. I pulled a code of 114, intake air temp sensor out of self test range. What does this mean? And where would I find this sensor? This has been going on for abotu two months at least...
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor is on the intake manifold itself. It has a two-wire connector on top and is located near the middle of the intake manifold, about halfway back on the driver's side. It should cost less than $20 at the local autopart stores.
yes, faulty IAT sensor will cause wrong air temp info to be sent to PCM/ECU which calculates the correct air/fuel mix and thus the amount of fuel to inject based upon air temp....colder dense air=more fuel....hotter less dense air=less fuel
too lean mix=miss
too rich mix=miss
trying to maintain 14.7:1 ideal ratio in op. temp hot op. mode
cold start open loop operation does not use IAT sensor to set fuel injection amount....PCM uses fixed data table which manuf. programs in based upon engine, yr, model and equip...
PCM uses input from ECT sensor to switch from cold start/driveaway mode to op. temp hot temp. mode
you may have other problems also, but fix this one first
engine will NOT run correctly with faulty IAT
disconnect neg. batt. lead to work on any sensor....also clears KAM PCM memory of learned op. parameters from defective sensors and returns to factory defaults....takes 5>10 miles drive to relearn per your driving style
You say you replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. What brand parts did you use. I think that it is quite likely that brand could be involved. Since you did get that code, I would treat that first, but if it doesn't clear up, let us know and we will try to point you in the right direction. Did you pull the code with the vehicle fully warmed up?
