I have a 07 f250 that threw code, fan speed sensor no signal. i took the fan shroud off and noticed the wiring had gotten cut by the fan, due to the plactic clip breaking that holds the wiring from getting hit by the fan.. my questioin is can i replace just the sensor to the plug. if so how to i get the sensor out of the fan.. and if so what is the part number for the wiring...
thanks
You have to replace the fan clutch since it's all one unit. If the fan side wiring got fubar'd then it's with the clutch. If the engine side got fubar'd then you have to repair it or replace the engine harness as I don't think there's a pigtail for the engine side.
thanks, i'm going to try to rewire it.. all the wires are color coded.. so i don't see any reason why the sensor should have malfunctioned besides the wires being severed.. if it still throws the code, then i'll have to get the whole fan clutch assembly..
Just reconnect the wires, matching the wire colors. I would recommend solder and heat shrink tubing to get the most reliable connection, but you could probably get away with crimp connectors if you had to.
solder them all back together, shrink wrapped them, and used some bailing wire to keep them out the way..no codes yet.. i am amazed how close to the fan blades those wires were.. even with the old chinsy plastic clip..
thanks..
As I understand it, it might be a good idea to see if the fan is tight and won't wobble, by trying to move it with your hands. It should turn but there should be no play front to back in the blades. Apparently one of the first signs of a failing water pump is a wobbling fan that cuts the wires.
I'm not saying you have that problem. But it never hurts to check.
