My tranny is starting to slip a little when shifting. It's more noticable when the vechicle is at operating temp. I assume that the bands are what's causing the slipping. The quesiton that I have is can the bands be replaced without doing a complete rebuild, and can this be done with the tranny in the truck? This is a 94 XLT with an auto tranny. I also pulled a vacum line off of the vacum tree and there wasn't any fluid, so the modulator should be okay.
At least a partial disassembly is required to replace the bands.. and if you're going to go through all that expense, you might as well have the whole thing redone.
changed the fluid and filter and no real difference. Here's a little more detail on my problem. When hot and accelerating moderately to hard, it slips from 1-2 and from 2-3. Hard acceleration will also slip. It's not to bad yet, but I'm going to be proactive and have it checked sooner rather than later.

If you don't mind my asking, who rebuilt it for you? Ford or a local shop? Also, what was the cost?
Not speaking for mr. 139 but I have had two different rebuilds on two different Explorers and each were $1150.00 for each. Through a local tranny shop.who is ASA certified and warrantied their work.
