i have a `93 ranger 2.3l 5 speed manual RABS only. In the past few days the ABS light has been on and when i pull the flash code it flashes 11 short flashes and one long for a total of 12 i have looked up the code in a rapair manual, which states "Fluid level switch grounded during a RABS stop" i have not made a RABS stop ever as far as i know, i never hammer on the pedal and never lock up the back wheels. i have had a ABS light on in the past but never pulled the flash code just disconect the battery which clears it for about a month. Any direction would help thanks folks
Can we assume you at least checked the brake fluid level?
ABS Code 11 is caused by the stoplamp switch being closed prior to the vehicle moving. If the stoplamp switch remains closed when the vehicle begins to move, the REAR ABS warning light will turn on at approximately 16 mph. Code 11 will not be latched in the control modules memory until the speed of the vehicle exceeds 37 mphs for at least 10 seconds. If the vehicle does not exceed 37 mph for at least 10 seconds, then the REAR ABS warning light will turn on but the module will not latch a code. Code 11 can be caused by a driver who is resting their foot on the brake with just enough pressure to close the stoplamp switch, while driving at least 37 mph for a minimum of ten seconds. When this occurs, a Code 11 will be latched by the RABS II module.
Possible Contributing Base Brake Component/Vehicle Wiring Concerns
- Terminal backout in the module harness connector at Pin 11.
- Missing (burned-out) stoplamps. All stoplamps must be missing or burned out to cause a Code 11.
- An intermittent/continuous open in Circuit 511 (LG) for Ranger. This open would be between module connector Pin 11 and the stoplamp switch.
- Worn or damaged stoplamp switch.
The stoplamp switch is under the driver's dash, it's connected to the brake pedal.

As Rockledge alluded to, low brake fluid would wake the level switch up.
A defective brake master cylinder reservoir low fluid level switch, is also a common offender, so the next time the light is on, remove the cover & try moving the float & see if the light will turn off. If so, suspect the switch.
Lots of good possibilities covered in Rockledges post, let us know what you find.
the brake fluid is full that was the first thing i checked. most of the time the code is on when i start the truck. i will check some things covered in Rockledge's post today

i replaced the stoplamp switch today and that did not resolve the issue. the ABS light was on when i started the truck. all of the brake lights are in good working order i replaced one light about two months before this issue started. where would i look for the "connector pin 11?" I am changing the thermostat and housing tomorrow i will do further testing then
Pin 11 is in the harness connector for the RABS Module. The Module is located behind the lower center part of the dash, on the left hand side of the ashtray assembly.
i took my truck in to have it inspected the other day and when the mechanic put it up on the lift i noticed that the steel brake line going to the driverside drum was leaking when i got back home i tightened it up and that has seemed to clear up the light. thanks for all your help ---Sully---
