Went to pick truck up. It started fine. When I was trying to turn around it had NO power in reverse or forward. I decided to park it and call a tow truck. As I was getting ready to turn truck off. CEL went out and truck was running fine. I let it sit there couple of minutes and decided to try and get it home. That was 5 miles away. Ran great light never came back on. CRAZY! One I got it home I let it run and then would give it some gas. CEL came back on maybe 3 x's in 10 minutes and would bog down for about 30 seconds and then go out and run fine again. ANY ideas before I go nuts on this?
I finally got the harnesses installed. I have to have it in May to pull a 15000 lb. trailer. The guy calls me to come and pick it up. I go and noticed were he had parked it there was a trail of something. Sure enough I start it up and let it run and look under it and somethings leaking. The guy looks and said that it was leaking from the oil cooler. It had never leaked oil before. So he's working on it again. It seems like I fix one thing and something else goes. How bad a fix is this? When do I give up and start over. HELP!!!!!
If you find out what the problem is, please, please, please let me know the solution. My truck is essentially having the same symptoms as yours, but not as severe, yet. It'll sputter with the CEL, clear the light, run fine, sputter again with the CEL, clear, and then run fine. Fortunately it runs fine much more than it sputters. Headaches, I love them.
PS. My truck threw codes P0472(Exhaust Pressure Sensor Low) and P0113 (Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit High Input). I'm fairly confident that these codes have nothing to do with why my truck is malfunctioning. The P0472 is probably from me unplugging the EBPV and the P0113 probably has something to do with me removing the sensor from the factory intake due to my Tymar intake. Plus the P0113 has been logged years before this started happening.
I had to replace the harnesses and covers. I figured if I was doing it, I may as well do it all and do it right. After replacing those I went and picked truck up and it was leaking oil. They then had to replace the O-rings on the oil cooler. Now about $800 poorer I have the truck back. It runs great so far. I have to pull a heavy trailer with it, this spring and summer so maybe this will get me through. I keep telling myself thats cheaper than payments on a newer truck and having to start over fixing things.
