94 ford f150 5.8L e4od tran. and dual tank
ok going to give as much info as i can about what happen
truck was driving fine before and no problems
start it up and drove for a min and got to a turn in my neighbor hood and gased it and than next thing i knew it turned off so i got it stopped and turned the key off that started it back up and it just cranked and cranked. me and my friend noticed the fuel pump wasn't on so we just switched it to the front tank and same thing. checked all the fuse and they were ok checked the distributor cab and it wasn't lose or wet underneath. as we got in his car, i forgot to turn the key off, but then the fuel pump cut on. we got my stepdads truck and pulled it back to my house. later that night when i got back home i tried to start it and it started. and i pulled it into the garage but i noticed it was taking a lot more gas to get the truck moving.
when you rev. the engine it sounds like its going to die and we let up and it idles bad and white smoke coming from the exhaust and check engine light is on
we have changed the spark plugs and wires.
still same thing
we replaced the timing chain and re timed the cap.
idles better but still same problem and right now we can't get it to turn over again and the fuel pumps are not cutting on but the check engine light did turn off
i would run a codescanner or try and do a selt test from fordfuelinjectors.com but it says when you turn the key on the fuel pumps with prime the system than cut off but they wouldn't turn off
i know they are suppose to at least come on for a min thats how i remember i know they come on but they are not now and i haven't looked at the exhaust so i can't really tell you and now the engine wont start
-Check engine light is on
-the fuel pumps are not cutting on but the check engine light did turn off
-when you turn the key on the fuel pumps with prime the system than cut off but they wouldn't turn off
You have an EEC or wiring problem here so pull the codes, if you get a long list then start looking for chewed wires, but if you get none at all change out the EEC.
P.S. There was another thread recently with a similar issue that was traced back to frayed wires near the TFI module.
