I finally got my engine back in last weekend. Almost done hooking everything back up and start her up. Is it possible to prime the oil pump by back filling the pump through the small hole that feeds the oil filter? This hole directly goes to the pump. Or is it necessary to prime it by turning the pump with a drill. If this is the case, how is it done?
I believe I would do it with a drill. You just need a hex type of rod (possibly like a allen wrench) that was long enough to stick out far enough to attach a drill to it. This way you can actually see on your gauge if you are getting oil pressure or not.
It's a 15/16 allen type hex drive. You could fashon one by cutting up an allen wrench if your in a pinch for time. Otherwise, you'll probably have to order the bit/primer by mail...I don't think it costs much more than a drill bit.
I use a 1/4 inch deep socket and a 1/4 inch drive extension.
Place a piece a paper over the head of the 1/4 inch drive extension the install socket on extension, this will help the socket from come off.
Then attach the drill on 1/4 inch drive extension.
