[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Dec-02 AT 05:10 PM (EST)]I am ready to bring my 74 f250 back to life. I am going to buy an oil pump primer and wanted to know if it will fit all Ford V8s. Could someone help me out whith that info. Thanks
the oil pump prime rods are different from fe engine family (352, 390 etc) and the 385 family (429, 460). i don't know about small block ford engines. i bought one from autozone about a month or so ago for the 385 series. they had that one on the shelf. i have had one for an fe for ten years or so so i don't know how long it takes to get that one. jim
I've used a 3/8 drive deep socket on a speed wrench. Just take care not to drop the socket.

Whatever you do don't drop the pump shaft or anything else down into the pan. Don't rely on the little spring tooth washer to retain the shaft in the pump. I have seen them slip and the shaft pull out. Many guys will duct tape a socket on their wrench to keep from loosing the socket.
Thanks for using FTE!
