just want to know what problems to look for its still on warentee but i like to be ahead of the game. I read about the timing chain tensioner problem but havent seen it much anymore..was it mostly resolved?? and does anyone know anyhting about this 5spd auto because i do know ford has horrible luck with these french trannys..lol sounds funny.. anyway..thankyou
o and does anyone know who makes this 4.0 its from germany????..
*Timing chain issue seems to be resolved ~ mid 02.
*Early 5R55E tranies (like 97-99) were vulnerable to the gasket between valve body and casing blowing out due to thin wall gasket. Resolved ages ago. They haven't had as horrible luck as you might be suggesting.
*The 4.0L from Germany is made by Ford. The basic block has been around over two decades.
**Dash illimination on the headlight switch likes to burn out. Ford will replace the switch because they want you to do that in the future when the bulb burns out. This happens because they leave the damn light on at full intensity when the lights are not on; I guess some people are incapable of locating a headlight switch when they drive into a dark tunnel. People that drive with their dash lights at full brightness find that their lights burn out more frequently; likewiae on this full intensity dash illumination on the headlight switch. Get a real shop manual, have a look at the schematics, and install a resistor to cure this problem or kill the stupid always on with lights off *feature*.
thanks sounds like i waited long enough to have ford fix most of the problems. and i dont know anyhting about the 5spd im speaking of the older 4spd's they just never seemed right.... but anyway the light buring out is no big deal to me definatly not worth messing with the wiring so ford can say that caused the rear end to go out...lol but ill make a note to run them on "med" intensity when i have the lights on at least...
I love cosworth, I'm gonna be using alot of thier parts on my 06 focus st. Cossey is the go to guy's when it comes to ford 4 cylinder performance. They are getting 250 hp out of a duratec 2.3 na engine and it's streetable, thats excellent on a 4 banger with out forced induction and thier parts are top notch in quality, there alittle on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for !
800 bones for their carbon fiber impregnated block ain't what I'd call pricey for an engine block, but their stage one and two kits are a chunk of bucks! I just love the fact that Chevy had to go to Ford for a competitive engine. It was a two year-old development engine that got shelved, but they still had to stick bowtie rocker arm covers on a "Ford" engine.
Edit: That's usually all ya need to end a Ford Vs. Chebby discussion.
