Question does your sohc ranger do this

Anybody out there with a ranger like mine, 06 level II 5spd auto all stock, or at least 4.0 sohc auto with posi of some sort. does it spin the tires if you mash it, dry no dirt on pavement. because if i floor mine its like.... hmm well im not gunna go fast yet, nope, nope well nah! ooo ok here comes 4000 rpms now i can. but if i roll into the throttle 1/4 1/2 3/4 floor, the power comes on much more linear. oo and one more thing while im complaining, my tranny seems confewsed hard, soft goofy shifts just not consistant. and its the kinda thing if i take it to the dealer thier gunna go "thats normal"

just somethings thats been bothering me, i just want to know if somethings messed up, of if any others are like this

Thanks, Josh

Question

Whoa...!

Was that a fast or slow ...heavy or light roll into the throttle? !!?

Are you actually trying to spin the tires and they arn't spinning?!?!

You may want to look for a Possible TSB (TSB/Recall Button up top) to see if there is a related Bulletin related to your Truck.....

I don't get what you're saying. Does it burn out immediately and that's the problem...or does it not burnout and you want it to?

I think he's saying that if he floors it, then it hesitates or falls all over itself. If he more gradually works the throttle, it takes off better.

it doesnt have power off the line is my problem. but its not a stumble just if i floor it it doesnt really respond accordingly. but if i roll onto it (i dunno how fast medium i guess) it feels like the engine responds to my input

I think the truck is fine. Getting a "Posi" (LSD) to do a successful burn-out should be quite the task. And IF you do manage to make it spin...you'll be left with only one..."Usable" tire mark....

I know on some of the "you tube" amatuer video channels, they have guys all the time tryin to get the Posi- to smoke up.

The only way (that i've seen) most seem to be successful is putting a fluid down (alcohol, dishsoap/water,etc.) and or Easing into a solid wall and flooring the crap out of it.

Orr you can change out the "rear" to something that is born and breed for Burn-outs

Here's a Link for example...Its based for GMs but it should give you an idea.

It's a V6...so I dunno. I can get mine to do it easy, but I got a stick + an open rear end. Try powerbraking and revving a bit and then see if it'll unlock as you take off. I wouldn't expect it to burn out out of a light or anything of that sort. I think you'd have to be sitting still and literally slam it to the floor for it to have any chance whatsoever.

EDIT: I just saw 99Trigger3_0's post (he posted while I was typing) and I agree 100%. Auto + Posi rear end, not gonna wanna unlock.

You look to have a fairly new truck...have you had the dealer flash/re-flash your "computer"??

If its not truely stumbling at the starting line, I'd say the truck is working jus' the way it was intended to.

If you don't like it... it maybe time to start "modding"...as they say..

well i have a trosen "posi" a very good unit actually.. so im not trying to force a burnout that was the best way i could describe it... i have a hard time explaining what my brain is thinking but basically i was wondering if any one with a combo like mine ( 4.0 sohc and 5 spd auto with some sort of posi) has power right off the line or can even spin the tires or even a tire. because mine doesnt jump off the line at all.ummm..... so what it boils down to is, is this programed into the computer for safty reasons maybe to keeping people from spining out or is this motor just a high rpm horse power motor and no low end torque. or maybe its even for smog reasons i dunno i just want to know if someone eles ranger does the same thing
