Hi all, my ECM was totally damage so I got in a yard a "used - know good" one BUT there is a problem, it comes from a F150 2WD manual tranny and my truck has 4WD and E4OD tranny.
My questios are:
1º It's possible reprogram to my particular truck setup?
2º Any programer or chip can do the job?
3º There another ECM from a E150 with E4OD tranny BUT this is 2WD, it can be reprogramed to 4WD?
4º I have hear something about ECM using MAP and/or MAF. Is there a 4.9L sequential EFI ?? some clarification please...
My 89 4.9l was sequential, not really a big deal for this. Being it's a 93 I am not sure if Ford could calibrate it to your truck. I really don't think it's going to work, the junk yard ECM maynot have the firmware or hardware to run the auto trans, same goes for push button 4wd. Your 93 will mostlikely be a speed/density system and not a mass air flow, MAF is an OBDII type sensor that ford did not jump on until late 95 and then was required in 1996-on. Talk to a ford tech, see if they can update the calibration on the new(used) PCM to the calibration of the old pcm.
Well it sounds really nice but I'm located in Venezuela. Technical support from dealers is almost null.
In USA it suposed to be very easy and probably just $100 - 200 to reprogram a good ECU. Tha's why I'm loooking form some software hardware to reprogram locally a ECM.
I don't know too much about MAP MAF, speed/density and all those things, I'm just a Electronics technician with a Ford truck that I love a lot...
Then your gonna have to learn EECeditor and probably get a connector to program the ecm through the diag port inside the casing. EECeditor should be able to tweak out what to have to make it work.
Usually shift points are transfercase independent. Meaning what you set as your shift points are the same wether in 2wd or 4wd. Depending on the sophistication of the tuner, usually you can only up your shift points a little.
On my f250, the WOT shift points are just shy of redline. PT throttle is not usually adjustable, but I have seen it.
ReAX, just out of curiosity, what year is your 4.9? I have cut apart a few harnesses ('87 E-150, 89 F-150, and one off a mid 90's mass air) and they all seem to have injectors 1,3,5; and 2,4,6 wired together, would make it bank fire I believe.

This thread is 3-1/2 years old...but nice use of search...
It was an 89, and I am pretty sure it was SMPFI, but I haven't had that truck in 5 or 6 years now so I can't recall what made me believe it was sequential. However, just because they are wired together doesn't mean the if one's circuit is complete, the other's is too. It could be some really odd driver setup where one injector has two grounds while the other that shares one wire had a ground and a hot.
