2002 F250 ???

I have a 2002 F-250.. Check out the sig. I have been told by the guy that wrote the tunes for my truck that I have the 6.0L intercooler. I have also looked at the Trans cooler and it looks like it is the 6.0L one as well (bigger than the 2001).

I have never changed any of these and I know the guy I got the truck from didn't either. Does this come stock in the 2002s?

I also have a digital odometer and a stock trans temp.

I as just wondering I do have a 6.0L intercooler and 6.0L trans temp... Thanks guys!

Can you post pics? I've got a stick on my 02, so no idea about the tranny questions, but I don't have a 6.0 intercooler. I do have a digital odometer.

Unfortunately I can't post any pictures. I'm working in Australia, I won't be back for a couple of months... From what I remember it the trans cooler looks about twice the size of the 01. I have only seen pictures of that one though.

Does the DP-tuner (do you have one?) Lock up your torque converter like the PMT-1 does? I have been wondering about it and since you have a 02 you'd be the person to ask... Thanks!

The 6.0L intercooler and tranny coolers are common upgrades for the 7.3's, especially if the truck was used very much for towing, but do not see how either component could be stock on any 7.3 given that they are components on newer designed engines. in other words, the intercoolers and tranny coolers for the 6.0's were not available for the 7.3's in 2002 because the 6.0's were not even on the market until half-way through 2003.

Was your buddy the original owner of this truck, or did he get it second-hand as well?

I bought the truck from a family member and he was the original owner. I'm sure the guy that makes the tunes was correct about the 6.0 intercooler he has seen more than I have.

I wish I was back in the states to take some pictures for you guys but I guess I'll have to wait.

I don't have a torque converter so I've never checked into this. Sorry.

Allen,

First off let me thank you for serving! PM me when you get back home and I can tell you about the 2002. I ordered one while stationed at Altus AFB OK and picked it up in November 2001. I just had an upgrade frenzy with my 02. Although it ran great in the stock configuration, it flies like a bat out of.....now! V/r Les

Thanks for the kind words... I'm actually not in the army any more, I'm working in the oil field now. I am currently in Australia that is why I can't take any pictures...

I too went Upgrade crazy with my 02 when I got it after Iraq... I am trying to find out some info on TC lockup with the DP-tuner on a 2002.

The guy that tunes my truck can't seem to lock it up for me so I want to know from people who have a DP and a 2002 if it DOES lock it up for sure. if so, I'll probably take the hit and buy it!

I have an '03 and a DP and the TC definitely locks up. Jody can perform magic with the 7.3's. email them or call, if it's not too expensive and the time zone thing matches up with when you are awake. They will answer any and all questions that you have. They are a fantastic group to deal with.

P.S.- If when you get back in the States you are still going to live in Texas, you may want to consider Tony Wildmans tunes. He also has a good product according to those that have his stuff, and one guy that has had both DP and TW's stuff they are comparable. TW is in Texas, and his live tuning is supposed to be very good.

I have talked with Jody and he did tell me he can make it lock up. I just want to hear some reviews from people with a 2002. The way ford programmed the 02 if different than all others... PMT-1 they made it lock up easily but then people were jacking up their TC so they changed it to what I have now I think it is PMT-5... and I think they changed it again for the 03s...

I just know the programming with ford was wierd with the 02... I can put PMT-1 on my truck and if locks up the TC but only the speedometer works, nothing else...

I'm still hoping another 02 owner can put your mind at ease on this, but I will tell you the thing that sets Jody apart from the crowd (and Tony too) is the customer service. You won't read anything about how Jody or Diane cheated or lied to anyone. If he says he can do it, I wouldn't have any problem spending my money with him.

Maybe I can help, I have an '02 and when I first bought it, it had a stock tranny and tunes. Ran really good, locked up fine. I upgraded to a BTS tranny with the PI converter with still running the stock tunes. It continued to run excellent. I just installed the DP Tuner and the tranny still locks up like it should. Just now with the DP, I can't seem to ease up on the skinny pedal...

I agree with ponyboychris! On 25 June I had BTS bullet proof my transmission. Truck drove much "freer" on the drive home. I had no chip. I could definitely tell when the TC locked up. Brian says I gained 17 HP just with the transmission changes; I agree, it didn't take as much pedal to go. Then on 28 June I had DP Tuner/Jody live tune my truck. All I can say is WOW!

Now my wife is getting tired (in a kidding way) of hearing me say "MAN I LOVE MY TRUCK!"

have been told by the guy that wrote the tunes for my truck that I have the 6.0L intercooler. I have also looked at the Trans cooler and it looks like it is the 6.0L one as well (bigger than the 2001).
From reading your other posts and the fact that you know the full history of the truck, you probably have the stock intercooler and trans cooler. The guy telling you that you have a 6.0L I/C is probably saying that because he sees the plastic end tanks on your intercooler. 2002's and 2003's have the plastic end tanks, just like the 6.0L's. I think even some 01's had it too, not certain though.

You can verify the trans cooler pretty easy. If it's mounted directly under the intercooler, it's the stock trans cooler.

I have talked with Jody and he did tell me he can make it lock up. I just want to hear some reviews from people with a 2002.
Jody can do anything and everything with shift points, patterns, lockup strategies, etc. On your truck, being a 2002, the PCM is probably a VDHx (x being a number). My truck was a VDH5, I say was because Jody re-flashed it to a VDH2.

Now Jody can't take your PCM and flash it to a PMT1, the PCM family is different and it won't work. However, he can put PMT1 shifting and T/C lockup on any or all of your tunes. That's very easy for him to do. It will make your truck shift exactly like the PMT1 strategy.

I did try the PMT1 shift strategy for a while. I know a lot of people like it, but it didn't work out too well for me. Living near the mountains, I found the PMT1 shift strategy was difficult to work with when driving at very high altitudes, on very steep offroad trails, and especially when pulling trailers on steep winding roads. The T/C locks in 2nd gear, and the engine RPM's drop as a result. At high altitude with no air, you can imagine the amount of smoke and the spike in EGT's. It was just too difficult to drive that way, and he changed it back to a different shift strategy that I liked better.

Now you living in Bryan, TX - don't really have to worry about altitude, so the PMT1 shifting might work much better for you. Talk to Jody and see about trying it out.
