i know it always made me wonder when the light was on, usually it was fine, faulty sensor or something. but u never know i guess, hopefully your son wont have any mechanical issues (safety).
I was able to speak with my son between classes late yesterday to find out if there were any stopping issues. Says there are no apparent ill-effects with the light on. He understands that the brakes will work old-style with ABS off-line. He also said it makes it easier to go drifting. "Just kidding", he said. I was not amused.
Are we certain that we're talking about the ABS trouble light being on & not the BRAKE warning light????
If it's the latter, have him make sure the brake master cylinder fluid level is ok. If that is ok, then have him tap on the reservoir tank, or remove the cover & push on the float, as sometimes it sticks & turns the BRAKE warning light on, because it thinks the fluid level is low.
Definitely ABS. Interesting developement just minutes ago. He called me and said he has no tail lights. Remember the body work I mentioned early on? The shop had a lot of interior trim off around the right side jump seat. I don't recall but I'm sure there is a harnass in there. He checked the fuses and the one for the ABS looked okay but he replaced it anyway. Same with the tail lights fuse. I called the shop and they want it back to check the work. I'm thinking they messed something up.
i hope its an issue that they have done something wrong, and will fix, make sure your son keeps a good distane away from people in front of him. id say 1 1/2- 2 car lengths per 10 mph. i didnt see where he is located, any snow coming his way soon???
Just thought I'd update this for anyone who is interested. The fix for this problem was a missing ground to the box as a result of body shop work. All of the lights are now working and the ABS light is off. I had read a post yesterday for someone elses ABS problem is that the light will come on if both tail lights are burned out or if they are replaced with LED replacements without the loading resistors. Many thanks to all who offered information to help me figure this out.
