I will be purchasing a 2.5" lift kit for my 94 F150 4x4. Will 2.5" blocks be acceptable? Will the add a leaf system provide a better ride quality? The add a leaf system is about $100 more and I would be purchasing it if I was going any higher (4"-6"). Not to sure if the 2.5" blocks will ruin the ride quality or make any difference over the add a leafs. Any insight would be appreciated.
you can get add-a-leafs from jc whitney for $60. they will make the ride a little stiffer, i have them in the back of my 90 f150, but they will make the truck sit perfectly level when used with the 2.5" rough country lift. id post pics of my truck, but i don't have a digital camera
the blocks keep the same quality of ride, and will come with your kit, but i have heard they can contribute to axle wrap if you get too tall, and our trucks have 2" blocks from the factory, so you would need to stack them, which is a big no-no.
Thanks for your input. I grabbed the 2.5" kit with the add a leafs. I will be running these 31 10.50's for a bit, but I plan on 33 12.50's in the future. Just picked up headers and a bassani y-pipe with cat, that lift kit, so the tires are gonna have to wait a bit.
A little block is not a terrible thing. I recommend never over 4" of block and never stack blocks. This is the big problem with a lot of lift kits: They'll send you 2.5" blocks to stack on top of the 3" stock blocks. Then you have one big ugly dangerous mess. If you're going to do a taller block buy 1 block that is the correct height instead of stacking. As jgreen mentioned, the taller the blocks the more axle wrap you'll have.
sounds like you got a good plan, one thing i forgot to add is that with the add-a-leafs you got, your carrying capacity goes up, which can't ever hurt for a truck, right?
Thanks for your input Justin. I hope this little jump in lift will improve the stance of my ol' girl. The headers and y-pipe should improve the throttle response a bit as well. The install won't be fun but it should be worth it!
the install isn't too bad, it took about 8 hrs, but we had to run back and forth to our friends shop for a couple of things, ran out of acetilyn(sp?) for the torch, had to get a tank, ran to town to get new brakes, little stuff, but overall, if you start with a good floor jack, some jackstands and full bottles for the torch, you will be good to go. you may not even need to use the torch if you have a good angle grinder, and that is only for the radius arm drop brackets. anyway, it will make a big difference in stance, about 3.5", over the old, probably sagging springs. let us know how it goes and good luck!
Mike I just put the 2.5" kit on my 92 Flareside with 33x12.5 BFG KMs. The 33s DO rub on the front bumper....the metal, not just the little plastic lower part. Plan on getting about 1.5" of spacers for the front bumper, or puttin 32s on it like recommended for the kit.
