I had a non-ford owner behind the steering wheel last night helping me hook up to a trailer. I think she didn't know about needing to push the brake in to shift thing (Jeep owner) I think she jammed my selector or something? My shift selector on my 99 F150 is suddenly one place off to the right, i.e. When in PARK, it's bwtween park and drive, etc. all the way across. I have all the gears, just the indicator is off to the right. I did a search and found some basic info, but nothing specific on how to adjust the selector. Can anyone give the idiot (ME) a step by step on this? Thanks
If you know where to feel around, there is a knurled section or similar on the shift cable that you can turn to set it. When I had the flywheel replaced in my truck, the shift indicator was off and when I took it back, the mechanic reached in under the steering wheel and adjusted it. He said you have to know where to feel to find it.
Haha this is so weird...i just had this happen to me today...my shift indicator was all messed up and was pointing to the right of the correct gear.... under the dash on the stereing column there is a cable that conects from your indicator to your shift column... and there is a white plastic piece that holds the cable, and has an adjuster to let you fine adjust the placment of the indicator... myne broke and was just letting the cable do what ever it wanted... the cable for yours could be broken or pulled off the column....its worth a try...good luck
Ok...it's the plastic bracket peice is broken. How do you change it? It looks like a real pain to change just that piece out. Do you have to remove the whole cable assembly? Thanks
I actually just glued the plastic piece together with some super glue and its held so far... dont go jamming it around... other wise you have to go get a new one from a ford dealership... and to get it out just unhook the loop at the end of the cable from the column and then unthread the adjuster nut till it slides apart... not to hard.. hope this helps
