Not sure on the power thing.........seems to be much more responsive than before, but then again that just might be pushing it harder for the sound........

Truthfully, it does sound much better, feels like the turbo spools faster and the MPG has increased, how much is to early to tell......but appears like it might be over 1 mpg or so. Doesn't sound like much, but with Diesel out here Cali at 2.60 per gallon, every MPG is worth it.

I plan to unplug the EGR to see what difference I might feel and when I have the time, I plan to take LET THE CAT FALL OFF to see what diff that might make?

My wife just isn't going to let me spend 400 to 800 on a shiny new exhaust, so I have to make the most out the 3.5inch factory unit. I figure if I can redice the restriction to airflow (muffler and cat) then the engine will breath better, with Xmas right around the corner, I might be able to talk her into a tuner..........But I believe you gotta have a free flowing exhaust before you tune.....
As to warranty issues, well, if removing the muffler causes something to fail, then I'll be AZZout.

yeah i here you i didnt want to spend a bunch of money on exhaust right now either . I`ve been running my 04 with a flash- paq on it for a few months now and love the added power and have wanted to do something with the exhaust so i desided to delete the muffler this weekend and was pleased with the sound but it just wasnt loud enough so i gutted the cat and omg that makes a big deference in sound but i havent drove it much yet to be sure about the power

In your 2006 6.0, if you unhook your EGR, you will prob get a CEL. And if you remove your CAT , smog police are an issue. Federal offence for removing CAT.

BPofMP - Was looking into the Cali smog rules and it appears, I say appears becuase I am no legal professor, but, it does appear that Diesels are exempt from smog out here. So, if nobody's gonna look, then why not do what you want. Now, I can say, to have my CAT fall off where it could be put back seems like the wise way to go. The Cat is $900 from Ford.Strangly enough, they built the truck with a sectional exhaust system, almost begging you to uninstall it. Even if I had the dough to cough up for a shiney new Turbo back System, I would hang on to my OE downpipe and CAT just for good measure. Who knows when a smog law or issue might come up where you might need it.

I have unplugged the EGR before and it threw the CEL, wife didn't like that. I have taken the EGR out and cleaned and reinstalled and have since plugged it back in which removed the CEL after a few restarts.

Looking forward to a free weekend to loose the Cat just to hear the difference..............if only fore a few minutes. Once the muffler is gone, which by the way is not easy to remove even when loose, I hade to jack up the vehicle at the frame to give enough clearance, further changes like loosing the cat will be very easy and quick to do.

I know about the problem of removing muffler. I made it easy for myself...it's called a SAWZALL. Sliced tailpipe off just behind muffler and clamped straight pipe on. Sounds great.

I don't know of anyone that ever got caught! But is it worth being the first one? Does your state do vehicle inspections?

Being it's a federal thng, I believe the fines would be lots more than you AND I can afford!

has any one just put a cat delete pipe on in place of the cat, how did that sound? does it still sound like a jet? is it a quick install and unistall incase u have to put cat back on for the dealer? i am afraid to delete the muff because of warranty reasons, but it will be goin away when warranty is up. is a cat delete pipe worth the 60$ if i am just looking for a quick cheap fix for that turbo whislte out of the tail pipe?

Diesel Power mag did a straight pipe vs. a muffled exhaust system on a '96 12v Cummins. With the db level on both had no real difference but they did gain a little bit of low end power and peak hp with the muffler setup. I will argue with Smokem331 on that all engines need back pressure. I have a '01 Camaro with the LS1 and it hates backpressure. But on the 6.0 I don't have a clue to what it needs besides what I have heard from here and what I have read.
