I have a 04 which off and on surges and misses from time to time when it is warm at a stop light. The surge was so strong that it feels like someone hit me from behind. I feel a slight surge off ond on on the freeway. I have taken it to the dealer multiple times and they replaced the cable and gave it a current down load. Does anyone have a fix? what should they be looking for to fix the problem?
what cable did they replace? you might need to find a more knowledgable dealer. best thing to do if it is not a constant event is ask for a data recorder to take with you so you can capture the pid readings which might help the techs find the concern.
They replaced the recalled cable twice. They have replaced the turbo and replaced the exhaust sensor multiple times. They have downloaded the most curent program for the truck.
I aslo have a 04 F-350 DRW that was surging as well. At stop lights it would surg and sometime cut out. I changed the fuel filters and put in a product called Sea Foam. I imediately noticed a change when I put in the additive. The first tank it would still do it occasionally but not nearly as dramatic. I went ahead and used it in another tank and the surging has completely gone away. I dont know how long this fix will last but I have not had to use the Sea Foam since and I have placed a little over 800 miles on the engine since trouble free so far. Hope it helps.
Sorry I been away from the computer. Thanks Blackhat620 for the link. Here in Oklahoma they use this stuff on everything from tractors to semi's. I do not know if it is the answer you are looking for but it helped me. I know Oreilly's Auto Parts sells it but I get it at our local farm store Attwoods.

Make sure your truck is not eligible for Recall 05S34. The recall fixes or replaces the FICM wiring harness and ICP sensor connector. There's a shield assembly they put on there as well. If that doesn't fix it, the ICP itself could be bad. Could be other things, too, but these are what fixed mine and it was doing the same thing yours is doing.
I subscribed to this site due to my frustration with the surging on my 2004 F250 Diesel 4x4 after going to 3 different dealers 6 times. After being on the wait list at dealer #3 (which specializes in trucks), I was finally given a data recorder. To make a long story short, it didn't surge during this time and my truck is back at the dealer having it removed to put in another vehicle that is doing the same.
I'll see if I can locate the Sea Foam here in Calif. At this point, I'm desparate and will try anything. If this surging happens at a busy intersection, I'm going to end up being the one who "runs a red light" and be at fault. As glk said, it feels like you are being hit from behind when it happens.
moebdick: I'll check and see if recall 05534 applies to my vehicle.
vloney: Any addt'l info. on the egr, icp, circuitry or programming would be helpful.
Sure sounds like an ICP sensor issue. I have fixed so many with that complaint. If you have an early build the ICP will be in the rear and probably oil soaked. I have had many of the newer ones go bad too. The VDR is a good tool for a Dealer to use. I have 3 and they go out on 6.0's all the time.
