There is no direct replacement for the 61 to 64 ford integral box and shaft unit.
A rebuilt one will run in the range of 350 to 500 dead Washington's.
There is no cheep fix for steering or improvisation as it is a life safety issue.

No one makes aftermarket brackets to mount a power steering pump to 223 or 262 engines.
It can be done if you have fabrication skills and tools. A mid 80s Toyota 4x4 PS steering box has a very similar size and requires a custom 90 degree bracket to mount it to the inside of the frame rail in the stock location. These can be run with a ford or GM pump, i would recommend a small GM metric unit but again a custom bracket will need to be fabricated and sheaves located to provide drive at the crankshaft. (again a rare item)
The steering arm also needs modifications by a really competent welder as that the pittman arm needs to be a hybrid of the toy end and the ford end.
The steering column will also need to be modified to accept a lower bearing and retainer and a new shaft sourced or cut off from your existing box and reused.
Ford has PS on some 223s but really rare. However the pump they used is not compatible with the toy box as they require a modern bypass type pump. There was a ram type PS offered as a dealer add on but i have never seen one for a 223 only for 292s
I did a conversion to a toy box on a 63 F100 Uni in 2005. I fabricated a new angle mount, Modified the pittman arm and adapted the Toyota hose ends to gm as the truck had a small block chevy so brackets were easy. The customer already had a universal IDIDIT column. I fabbed up a lower mount and and made the connection with a borgeson universal.
61 to 64 are hard to provide PS for buy the 65 66 truck with the new twin I are simple even a geico caveman can do it as there is all factory components to do it.

These parts will tighten up the gearbox, how much so, I cannot say. It depends on how worn the expensive, hard to find worm & shaft, sector shaft are.
These parts should be no more than $150.00 total. maybe less. These are the same parts that peeps install in a "rebuilt" gearbox that costs 100's of buckaroo's more.

I'm doing a lot of work on my 1963 4x4 F250. Do you have a site you recommend for purchasing a rebuild kit or a rebuilt manual steering box? I've been talking with Bill W he sent me a link to black birds for a disc break conversion kit, but it does not have a master cylinder or booster. He just said he used a mid 70s do you know if a 76 will bolt right up to my 63? Thanks for the help.

The 4x4 mounting plate needs to be modified to accept a later ford booster. There are two counter sunk 5/16 machine screws facing out to accept the single pot MS. The booster needs to be mounted to this plate by drilling and adding four counter sunk bolts or drilled and welded studs and still clear the four bolts that sandwich the firewall and pedal brackets. . Just center the lever for the booster in the middle of the existing hole for the old single pot.
I use lever type boosters from a 78 as they raise the booster up and away from valve covers. I also scrounge up an eccentric bolt from the same year. Once it is mounted mark the lever where you want it and drill a new 9/16th hole for the bolts shank and bushing. you will have to search the yards as the lever unit does not come with rebuild boosters.
Add any ford F250 master for power drum. 67 to 72's dump out the drivers side for the brake lines. 73 to 79 dump out the passenger side of the master.

Hey thanks for the detailed response! Do you have any suggestions on where to pick up a new steering box? Right now I'm looking at getting a rebuilt one from LMC, but I'm thinking there is probably a better deal out there.
Thanks,
Chad
Here is a thread that mentions re-builders in Virginia. Steering Box Rebuild
Here is a good shop in Washington. Red-Head Steering Gears
Here is Bench works out of Scottsdale AZ. benchworks steering
Look in your yellow pages and see if there are any other near you. The last place i would purchase a box is LMC.
