Please, if you're going to tow anywhere above 65MPH please let me know where, when, and on what road so I can safely get my family out of your way! When you are on the side of the road with a blowout and the entire side of your camper ripped open from a load range d tire exploding, I will ride by and wave. Oh and by the way.... The 04 up is rated at 9900 lb towing capacity. Of course this is with a Weight distribution hitch and proper braking. Yes a 250 diesel will do a better job but the 150 does it well also, this is providing you have the 5.4 with 3.73 gears. If you got the 4.6... I feel bad for you!

Correct me if I am wrong but the only F150 with a 9900lbs tow rating is the regular cab, short and long bed, and 2wd. Then you have to get the HD tow package with 4.10's and a 10.25" Dana rearend, and all of these trucks are XL's and XLT's.

Oh I also have a question with you feel bad for me with my 4.2 and a 5 speed when I fly past you at over a 120, trust me it does it. What about when your at the gas station and I am out there getting 22+mpg.

As long as I am not towing anything I get 18-19 MPG. Thats pretty damn good for a 300 HP V8 and a truck that weighs 6500 LBS. As far as you flying by me at 120.... go right ahead. I'll wave as I drive by at 65 and you're pulled over by the cops! Plus, see if your v6 will pull my camper. Or should I say, hook it up and see how far you get. Once again I'll say the F-150 that I have does the job it was intended to do. It does it without complaints and has been doing it without problems for quite some time. If I didn't need a V8 I would have bought a Ranger. Oh and by the way... My F-150 will also do 120 MPH and so will my wifes KIA. Does this mean I have to or even want to. I out grew all that crap about 15 yrs ago! Do I like to put my foot into it evry now and again and it has no problems climbing up into the 3 digit range. Do I stress about getting stopped? yes I do. I live in state that if you get stopped going over 15 MPH over the posted limit you go to jail. Sorry, I have better things to do than go to jail, pay outragous fines, pay outragous insurance and all I have to show for all the time and $$$ spent was bragging rights that "My truck will do 120 MPH. I can prove it, just ask the cops, the judge, and the insurance company." To me thats just not fun! As far as the weights go. You have 3 sections that you have to pay attention to, The GVW, Axles, and CGVW. As long as you don't go over these weights you are good to go. The trailer I tow falls into all these numbers and tows great. As far as not towing with a 1/2 ton truck.... there are far more 1/2 ton trucks on the road than anything else. There are RV manufacturers that specifically design RV's for 1/2 ton trucks. So as far as 1/2 ton trucks not designed for towing.... I think you need to do some research. Get the truck you need to do the job you need it to do. If you get more truck you will be able to tow/ haul more but you also have the added expense of maintenance and diesel fuel. If you can get away with a gas truck then go for it. Just make sure it has enough *** to haul anything you want anywhere you want.

What I meant by my post was that don't feel sorry the guys that don't have the 5.4. Some of us like me didn't see towing and hauling in their future for our truck, and gas milage was a big part of out desesion. I like ageraging 18mpg. I don't haul thats what I use my F250, and its frame twisting 460 for. Sure I have hauled once I the six months I have had it. I hauled 1500lbs in it and it did great. It does better than my dads 1500 chevy thats has a performance 350. I still have 3.55 highway gears in it, and those are going to be junked for 4.10's. If the V6's had performance parts like headers and superchargers then they wouldn't threatning to the sales of the 5.4.

has anyone else noticed that the supercrew likes to burn-out? I've only had mine 2 days and I've already left alot of rubber around town. I am so used to driving my 94 F-150, that when i give my 06 a little gas, it roasts the tires. still needs some more power though

Anyone can tie a weight to their right foot and go faster than they should. The question really is not "how fast I can go", but rather "how fast can I stop", especially when towing.
Take a look at a SD brake setup & compare to the 150. HUGE difference in size and stopping ability.

As far as brakes go... My truck stops better when hooked to my travel trailer. The trailer has 12" brakes on all 4 wheels and I can literally stop the truck without the truck brakes. The tuck by itself has better brakes than any other 1/2 ton truck I have ever driven. It stops smooth and straight. The SD brakes are upgraded just because the truck itself with nothing in tow weighs 1000 lbs more than a 1/2 ton. I would hope it has everything upgraded! It is designed to pull, and tow more plus it is much heavier. If you want to see bad brakes go drive a Dodge Ram 1500 or a Durango. I had an R/T, and you couldn't stop that truck unless you threw an anchor out the rear hatch!
As far as burning out... I can and have laid down some pretty healthy black marks all the way into second gear. Yes it does spin easily and it almost caused me to get a ticket right after I installed my Edge. I wasn't used to no more throttle lag and I blipped the gas pedal and smoked the tires in a parking lot. I immediately let off because I was in a parking lot but the cop didn't see it that way. I did get out of it.

A particular trailer that you might pull could have "great" "OK" or "non-at-all" brakes, depending on maintenance, adjustment, type of actuators, etc. If the trailer you pull has good brakes that is truly an asset.
But what if you hook on to a trailer that has poor or "0"" braking? with a 1/2 ton you may as well throw the dice. As long as there is no reason to stop in a hurry, you are good to go.
It's the times that you DO have to stop in a hurry that will bite you in the ***.

If my trailer brakes are not in perfect working order and condition then the trailer does not roll period! Anyone that knowingly pulls a load that requires brakes and thier brakes are not up to snuff is just plain ignorant in my book. I wish that they would hit me so I could sue the hell out of them for faulty equipment and negligence. Anyone that hooks up to thier trailers and doesn't check the brakes first to make sure that they will stop the tow vehicle is towing very dangerous. I personally wouldn't want my family and pets in my truck if my brakes weren't perfect. It's not worth the risk of injuring them or my self just to go away for the weekend. If it's not right, it doesn't roll PERIOD!

I agree that the brakes are much better than other half tons. The only truck that I am not sure about is the Ram I have never seen the brakes or driven one, but ford does beat out GM and the Titan. The Titan actually has small and what looks to be undersized brakes. The disks are a smaller diameter and the rear disks arn't even vented. The calipers are also about half the size, which means smaller pad surface. I can't vouch for the screw but my regular cab short bed stops on a dime.

The Screw stops on a dime also. The Dodge still uses drums on the rear and the fronts are undersized. I really am impressed with the braking system on our trucks. Since they are so heavy I would expect the brakes to be lacking but this is not the case. Very sure footed as well in a panic situation.

The topic was "more power" not "lets see if we can stop".

Lets get back on to the topic of more power, we all know the the 4.6s & 5.4s need it!!!

Don't forget the 4.2 needs it more than anything else. Maybe its just me but I prefer to be able to stop my truck. My friends have had to use telephone poles to stop and they said its not fun. The truck doesn't do to well, neither does the pole.
