Engine Displacement Help - 1978

Ok so I have a '78 motor with this code on it D8TE-1 (the 8 could be a 0) I am trying to figure out what size, I am thinking roughly 351? possibly higher... that is all the info i can really give about the motor is that code

C=60's, D=70s, E=80s..
D8=78, D0=70
D8T=1978 Truck
D8TE= 1978 Truck Engine
thats all I can tell ya, Dont know what the 1 is for.

It isnt in a truck, it is actually in a 58 thunderbird, the person we got the thunderbird from put a 78 truck motor in it, so i guess what are the sizes again?

A 78 would have come with a 300-6, 351M, 400, 460. There is info in the thread mentioned re Identification.

No way to tell a 351 and 400 apart. A 351M is different from a 351C or 351W.

Nope, not unless you drop the pan but they tune up the same tho.

the 351m is a 400 engine de-stroked to a 351. thatmotors got a lot of torque....

IF you want some good power out of it for a decent price, then headers, dual exhaust, 600-650CFM 4v carb, with 4v intake, a RV cam and lifters and a double roller timing chain, and it would really wake it up, and if it does turn out to be a 351M, then you could get the crank from a 400 for the extra torque.
