Hey thanks Kerry Wow finally I appreciate your interest! Actually No to your question about the check level before, No (kick myself) but the bright side of that is that I never added or had anyone ever service the car for anything but tires (even that was an issue Sears didn't balance any tires) I inspected the trans fluid but didn't note the level saw it was browning and the mileage deemed necessary to do the change. I assumed the fluid didn't enter areas of the tranny properly anyway Thanks for putting it to a close for me I'm going to assume the wrong dip stick was put in
Well I was beat to the point, the dipstick is the final authority on what goes in. I check them at the cold level then you don't have to do all the warming up crap and hope it is all right. Ford also has a bulletin out about using MerconV in most older Mercon tranny's as an "upgrade" if you will. The E4OD/4R100 and the jap one are still excluded. I have a '92 4R70 and it shifts much better with MerconV than with the orginal Mercon, it is a popular upgrade for the Crown Vics to get them shifting right again. Sounds to me like you took a qt out when you shouldn't have and thats why there were problems. I can't see how synthetic V dino makes any difference.
Also note that the new 5R100's take Mercon SP which smells even worse than MerconV and costs about twice as much.
Next time if you want to flush the system pull a cooler line, if you have it, and turn the vehicle on and let it pump the fluid out, start to fill with new and when the good fluid starts pumping out shut it off and fill.
