transmission fluid

I have a 99 f150 with E4OD transmission, I’m planning to change the transmission oil, what type of oil should I use? I know it calls for mecron, Is it ok to use dexron III,Mercon ? I wanted to use synthetic but all the synthetics have dual rating for mecron/mecron V and I read somewhere it was stating that ford does not recommend using dual rated transmission oils. Can anyone help me? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

mercon 3 is the only fluid i would use.also bump up to a larger trans cooler.this will help the trans and fluid live longer

merc V and mercon III are not interchangeable. if you use merc V in a trans rated for merc III from what I understand it can affect the seals. As far as merc III in a merc V trans, no one I talked to knows.

The safest move is to pull the dipstick, read what fluid it recommends, use that fluid.
