... but I suppose that is better than NO progress. Check the link in my signature. I got a little bit done on the truck yesterday and I got the seat back from the upholsterer today. Now, I really feel pushed to get busy.
Boy do I understand snail's progress. I started on the upgrade to my 52 Panel 10 months ago. Then things got really busy in my real estate practice and no time for me to do hands on work (working often 12-14 hours a day) so I took the truck to some friends who own Lawless Hotrods. I have been doing twice a day visits directing traffic and throwing money at the situation for the past 4 months. I just posted new pictures of the latest progress. Hopefully will have the headliner install tomorrow. The interior should go quickly after that.
The seat looks nice. It sounds like you will haver her running soon. You will be driving yours before you know it.
I know about less than a snails pace, does that count? I started getting sick before the supernats this past summer. My truck has been sitting with no brakes since right before that. She is on hold indefinately at this point.
I've got you all beat! 17 years and counting. I've got the chassis completely done. Now it's time to do body work. I just hope it won't be another 17 years before I'm ready for paint!
Once winter gets here IM done. My truck is under tarps and I have a one car garage with my 49 Ford Car in that. Theres hardly no room to work. I have so many tools in my garage I can barely get from end to end with the car parked in it.
I might tear into the 283 that was in my truck when I got it but I dont really have any money to take that on right now.
I want to get my front half of the frame stripped and painted and my engine mounts finish welded in and making the trans crossmember. If I can do that before the bitter cold great. If I get that done IM moving on to taking the windshield out stripping and painting the window channel and probably the dash and floors. I hate thinking about something I wanted to do before winter and knowing well I will get that next year, that eats at me. Even when I start back on the project I keep it in my mind damn this should have been done etc.
Fantastic looking seat! Don't worry about the snails pace, thats all part of the program. I'v ehad my truck since 1998, worked on it in fits and starts, got serious about working on it in 2003, managed to get it driveable early this year and havent done much since. Now that winter is here I can get some work done. this summer was too busy with cruise nights, lake trips, camping trips, home projects, etc. My truck is along ways from being purdy and at the rate I'm going... ...it might not ever get there. But is sure is fun
Well, my annoyance comes in here: that old truck was running pretty well when I parked it 20 years ago and it's only my neglect and laziness that put it in the shape that it's in. I think I gots me some guilt going here.
Great looking project truck. Wish mine looked that good when I started. These things take time, we all get sidetracked and walk by one day and it just jumps out at us and says "Hey, It's time to work on me again". I've been working on my 53 for over 3 1/2 years and only have the frame and suspension done along with the major metal work on the cab. Keep up the work and he'll run again soon.
No use in kickin' yourself in the rear about it, it has happened to all of us. Isn't it amazing how fast a vehicle that is not being used will deteriorate as opposed to something driven all the time? They can both be in the same environment and everything.
When I get down and out about the state of the project, I have to set myself a series of small goals and focus on them because if I step back and look at the whole project I get overwhelmed and never get anything accomplished. Especially if I'm facing something that I caused or could have prevented (like I said, we all have been there)
Now, stand up straight, square your shoulders off, shake off those doldrums and go out the and get busy
Thats exactly how you do it. I have built a few cars and man theres days and days of just tearing stuff off and grinding fixing and sanding after a while you go man thats some work and before you know it theres less left to do and it actually looks like something.
Dont get discouraged everybody its metal it can be fixed.
I took the advice: now the waterpump is on. Napa sold me the wrong radiator hoses so we're on hold till tomorrow when the right ones get here. Meantime, I'm cutting a gasket for the water outlet in my spare time. So far, hoses were wrong and the plugs were the wrong ones. Very frustrating... not even worth taking a pic.
