Just got home from the Wings Over Houston airshow and the USAF Thunderbirds.

One word.

Awesome.

The Thunderbirds were absolutely stunning. My step son stood there with his jaw hanging down the entire show. Afterwards he got all of their autographs and hasn't stopped talking about how great they were since we left. Maybe he will enlist.

Proud to be an American and a USAF brat.

I took the camera but then didn't feel like carrying it so I left it in the car. I did take a pic with my phone of this Marine helicopter crew's mascot though. They are called the Road Hogs and this is their mascot.

I was at the show at Whiteman AFB this summer, got my nose BBQ'd by the sun 'cause I was looking UP all the time... They used to put on great shows at Richards-Gebauer Air Force Base near KC but someone figured out a more "profitable" use for all that airbase land. -grrrr!

We are all burnt pretty bad right now, especially the wife. I guess because she didn't wear a hat. It was worth it though.

Got this one with my phone too. This was the heritage flight. An Air Force F-15 Eagle, an F-4 Phantom and a P-47 Thunderbolt, all side by side and flying together. It was something to see. Sorry about the crappy pic. I am kicking myself now for not taking the camera in.

I was in the financial district in SF, then I went down to the wharf/pier 39 area. I caught most of the show walking through downtown and watching it from the 16th floor of the hilton....overlooking the bay.

ANAP, you were definitely in a crowed area, both Downtown and in Pier 39.

I always watch shows from the Marina Spit, a stones throw from the Marina Greens and the St. Francis Yacht Club/Golden Gate Yacht Club.

The Blue Angels are amazing, aren't they?

Yes they are! I was down there cuz I had a buddy that came out from Colorado...he picked a horrible weekend to come out! Watching the show from the 16th floor was pretty sweet though!

We went down to Monterey and Carmel the next day...love that area!

Texas Outlaw, I'm from Vallejo too. Born and raised there. Family moved to So. Ca. in 79. Kinda interesting to see someone else here from V Town. Don't remember ever going to fleet week though. Was it in San Francisco?

wassabe, I thought Fleet Week started in 1979, but apparently it started in 1981.

That's why you never saw it here in '79.
