Turbo acting funny

The PSD is going to suck in as much air as it can. A stock intake is slightly restrictive, and prone to leaks. Add a chip or tuner and the stock intake becomes too restrictive at higher boost levels. This raises EGT's.
The turbo surge issue comes in with a chip or tuner. A power adder gives you more exhaust flow at lower rpm, spooling the turbo faster at lower rpm's. Also at that rpm range, an imbalance occurs with the stock turbo. More air is being supplied than the engine can take. The design of the wheel, compressor housing, and small turbine housing stalls out the stock turbo. Basically air is trying to back out the intake side of the turbo.
By putting your truck back to the stock tuner setting, you are reducing the power and exhaust flow at lower rpm's. It's much harder to get the turbo to surge, but having a 6-speed you have more control and ability to "force" it to surge.
