Turbo acting funny

Ive got a 2000 with a 6spd and I recently put on the 6637 and drove it a few hundred miles. and I just got in my 6.5 lift and 37s, and straight piped my truck, so I was out driving and seeing how everything felt, and when I got into 6th..at about 110km/h on the speedo it started makin this shh shhh shh noise and then I let off and it made the big TH TH TH like a turboed up mustang. I unhooked my wastegate and it still did it...I havea super chips in on the tow setting..so am I gettin a boost leak is it becasue of the chip, is this surge...whats the dealio?
sorry for the length

edit- I heard it one time before the straight pipe..but not as bad

Yep thats the compressor wheel stalling out. Amazing how things are amplified when you change parts huh?

To fix the problem, go with superior wheel aka wicked wheel. This will eliminate 98% of surge/stall. Will lose 1-2 lbs of boost.

$59.99 + s/h

Or ATS Compressor housing. 100% fix. Keep stock wheel installed.

$425.00

Has anyone tried one of those turbo air guides with the WW and have it make a difference?

If you decide to go with the ATS compressor housing, check out Xtreme Diesel. They have a good price.

Ive heard mixed reviews on the turbo air guide. Some say it makes a difference, some say it doesnt and is a lot of money for not a huge difference.

What about high performance wastegate actuator? Any body running one of those? Sorry I just ordered a boost tube, MAP line T and Overboost annihilator...maybe changing the wastegate would make a difference.

Nice call mueckster! Only $403 at Xtreme or $1500 for a Ball Bearing

Wastegate does nothing for surge. I put a Banks Big Head on my stock turbo with no change in surge. However, the BB turbo sure took care of it.

As far as the TAG goes, I'm not wasting my money. All these mods to open up the intake and breathe in more air, then stick a restriction in there just defeats the purpose. Besides, surge is caused when the turbo is providing more air than the engine uses, and that air has to back out somewhere. I don't see how a TAG unit could change that effect. Only a different wheel design, different compressor, or larger turbine housing can affect the amount of boost enough at the rpm level to eliminate surge.

That's it. Basically.

The WW design does spool slightly faster, but doesn't provide as much peak boost.

The reason I asked was because I saw this on a site:
Increase Airflow
Lower Exhaust Temperatures
Increase Low-End Throttle Response

Are these things noticeable?

One more question, does it decrease anything?

I purchased a T-61 direct replacement turbo with a 92mm exhaust side with an EBPV elimation kit for $1200 bucks. It's comparable to the turbonetics replacement turbo but for less money. The BB turbo is nice but it's not at all necessary for these trucks, especially if you're towing. My truck pulls like a freight train with it, and it eliminated surge completely.

Around 2 hours.
I have the WW and it completely cured my turbo stalling when towing. The only time it will stall now is if I push it hard enough to drive the EGT to 1300 and above. And I don't make a habit of that practice so for me it's a complete solution.
